Mini documentary production
Explaining a neuroscience programme to a non-specialist audience
A documentary-style programme film and leadership portraits for a provincial research organization.
- Client
- Ontario Brain Institute
- Location
- Toronto, Ontario
- Service
- Mini documentary production
Situation
The Ontario Brain Institute runs NERVE, a research programme whose value is easy to explain to other researchers and hard to explain to anybody else. Written material was doing work that a person speaking plainly does better.
Objective
Produce a film that explains the programme in the words of the people running it, understandable to funders, partners and the public without a neuroscience background.
Production approach
- Interview-led rather than narrated, so the explanation comes from the people who run the programme.
- Multiple camera setups per interview, lit and miked for a long, unhurried conversation.
- Supporting footage cut against the interviews so the abstract parts of the explanation have something to look at.
- Professional portraits of programme leadership photographed on the same visit.
Deliverables
- Edited programme film
- Colour grade and audio mix
- Professional portraits of programme leadership
Outcome
The film is published on the Ontario Brain Institute's own channel. No performance figures have been published by the client, so none are claimed here.
